Social Mix n' Match Competition
Instead of putting the spotlight on competitors, the Social Mix n' Match Competition focuses on dancers during the normal hours of an evening dance. Judges will be hidden throughout the crowd to both dance with those taking part, as well as view how the connect with any partner on the dance floor. This allows for a much better view of the social connection between any Lead and Follow. Dancers will be rated based on their musicality, blues aesthetic, and connection with their partner. Registration is $5.
Prelims: The first round of this competition will take place between 11pm and midnight during the Friday evening dance, All dancers taking part in this competition will be wearing a number during this time, while judges will be watching and dancing with those taking part.
Finals: The finals round of this competition will take place during the second band break of the Saturday evening dance and be a PRO/AM style competition. The finals Leads and Follows will dance with each of the instructors of the weekend, in both All Skates, and Spotlights.
Dancing an their own, a partner can truly let their creativity fly without worrying about leading or following the mysterious movements of a partner. In this competition, dancers will be able to test their musical, and physical skills by interpreting a wide range of Blues styles, and tempos, and painting their own picture across the dance floor. Registration is $5.
Prelims: The first round of this competition will take place at the beginning of the Friday latenight. Competitors will dance to a range of Blues rhythms, and be rated on their originality and interpretation of the music, as well as their blues aesthetic.
Finals: The finals round of this competition will take place at the beginning of the Saturday latenight. Competitors will be matched against other finalists for a Cuttin' style showdown, where judges will vote on which dancers progress in placement.
